Mix ground beef with breadcrumbs, mustard, ketchup, beef base, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Divide into 8 equal portions and form 8 patties.
Add 2 Tablespoons of butter to a large skillet and melt the butter. Add patties, 4 at a time and cook for about 6 minutes per side until you reach an internal temperature of 165. Remove cooked Salisbury steak to a plate and lightly tent. Place in oven to keep warm. Cook the remaining 4 patties the same way and remove from pan and place again on a plate tented and place in oven to keep warm.
Leave the drippings in the pan and add the the last 2 Tablespoons of butter. Caramelize the sliced onions. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until golden color.
Combine your beef broth and cornstarch together and add to skillet. Add in the Worcestershire sauce and ketchup for the sauce. Bring to a boil and add back in the Salisbury steaks.
Allow sauce to thicken and serve over mashed potatoes.
