Skillet Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • ¾ cups seasoned breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup dijon mustard
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon beef base or 1 beef bouillon
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter, divided
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2½ cups beef broth
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon ketchup
Instructions
  1. Mix ground beef with breadcrumbs, mustard, ketchup, beef base, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Divide into 8 equal portions and form 8 patties.
  2. Add 2 Tablespoons of butter to a large skillet and melt the butter. Add patties, 4 at a time and cook for about 6 minutes per side until you reach an internal temperature of 165. Remove cooked Salisbury steak to a plate and lightly tent. Place in oven to keep warm. Cook the remaining 4 patties the same way and remove from pan and place again on a plate tented and place in oven to keep warm.
  3. Leave the drippings in the pan and add the the last 2 Tablespoons of butter. Caramelize the sliced onions. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until golden color.
  4. Combine your beef broth and cornstarch together and add to skillet. Add in the Worcestershire sauce and ketchup for the sauce. Bring to a boil and add back in the Salisbury steaks.
  5. Allow sauce to thicken and serve over mashed potatoes.
